Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira believes the Gunners are in a strong position to challenge for the Premier League title after making a “really strong statement” in the summer transfer window.
Arsenal have finished as runners-up for the past three seasons under Mikel Arteta, with Liverpool winning last term and Manchester City taking the two seasons prior. This season, Arsenal entered the international break with a one-point lead over Liverpool, who are adjusting under new manager Arne Slot.
Vieira highlighted the impact of both established stars and new signings. Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice scored in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over West Ham, while summer arrivals Martin Zubimendi, Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, and Eberechi Eze have all contributed to the squad.
“I don’t know if it’s a good year or not because the Premier League is really competitive,” Vieira, now Genoa manager, told Sky Sports. His comments underline confidence in Arteta’s squad and their readiness to compete at the top.
