Pep Guardiola Tips Vincent Kompany as Future Man City Manager, Reveals Ex-Bayern President

Pep Guardiola has revealed who he believes could succeed him at Manchester City, according to former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness.

Hoeness claims Guardiola personally endorsed Vincent Kompany as a future City manager during a private phone call last year. At the time, Bayern chiefs were searching for Thomas Tuchel’s replacement, and Kompany’s name emerged despite Burnley’s relegation.

Hoeness explained that Guardiola assured them Kompany was an exceptional coach, saying they could “take him blindly” and even predicting the Belgian could one day take charge at Manchester City once he steps down.

Guardiola’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, which would mark 11 years in the Etihad hot seat — a period after which many expect he may decide to move on.

Kompany, however, refused to be drawn into speculation about an emotional return. The Bayern boss, whose side have dropped just two points in 12 Bundesliga games, insisted he is focused entirely on his work in Germany.

A legendary former City captain, Kompany won four Premier League titles and six domestic cups during his playing career. His Bayern team are now flying under his leadership, with Harry Kane leading the scoring charge.

For now, though, Kompany is keeping his attention firmly on building success in Munich, despite Guardiola’s glowing endorsement for the future.
