Fabio Wardley produced a sensational comeback to stop Joseph Parker in the 11th round and move within touching distance of a dream heavyweight showdown with Oleksandr Usyk.
The thrilling clash at London’s O2 Arena saw Wardley dig deep once again, surviving early punishment before turning the tide in brutal fashion.
Wardley, who famously took nine rounds of damage before knocking out Justis Huni earlier this year, was under heavy fire from Parker in the opening rounds. The New Zealander’s sharp jab repeatedly found its mark, leaving the Brit bloodied and battling to stay on his feet.
But true to his reputation, the Suffolk Puncher weathered the storm and unleashed a thunderous right hand in the second round that rocked Parker. Though Parker managed to cling on, the fight quickly turned into a back-and-forth war.
By the middle rounds, Wardley showcased his incredible chin and heart, refusing to back down despite absorbing several clean shots. Parker appeared in control again during the seventh, but fatigue began to creep in as Wardley continued to press forward.
In the tenth, the fight swung dramatically — Wardley landed a vicious uppercut that sent Parker reeling into the ropes, narrowly saved by the bell.
Then, in the eleventh round, Wardley finished the job. A flurry of devastating combinations forced the referee to step in, ending the bout and sending the crowd into a frenzy.
An emotional Wardley collapsed to his knees in relief as his team flooded the ring.
“Usyk, where are you?” Wardley shouted after the fight. “What I lack in experience, I make up for in heart, chin, and will. Everyone said I wouldn’t make it, but I’ve proved them wrong.”
The victory cements Wardley’s status as one of Britain’s most exciting heavyweights and sets up a potential undisputed title fight with Usyk — a dream matchup for the 30-year-old.
