Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has revealed that the team is yet to receive the $100,000 and other rewards promised by President Bola Tinubu after their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) triumph in July.
Ajibade made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, saying:
“We have not received our money, but hopefully, they will pay. All the promises you heard, we have not received anything.”
Under Ajibade’s leadership, the Super Falcons claimed their 10th WAFCON title in Morocco, defeating hosts Morocco in a thrilling final.
Following the victory, President Tinubu pledged to reward each player with $100,000, a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate, and the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) honour.
He also promised the technical crew $50,000 each, along with three-bedroom apartments and the OON award.
Despite the high-profile announcement, Ajibade’s remarks indicate that none of these pledges have been fulfilled.
Rasheedat Ajibade says she hopes the government fulfils its promise to the Super Falcons soon.
