Manchester United legend Roy Keane has criticized Luke Shaw, accusing the England international of giving up during their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Despite signing new players over the summer, Manchester United’s poor form has continued into the new season. The defeat against City marked their second loss in four league games.
Phil Foden opened the scoring in the first half, before Erling Haaland added two second-half goals to seal the victory for Pep Guardiola’s side. The first goal came after Jeremy Doku easily skipped past Luke Shaw to provide the assist for Foden.
Keane told Sky Sports:
“United’s defending, the two midfielders are too square and Luke Shaw just gives up. It’s a nice bit of skill, but Shaw’s an England international player, hundreds of games under his belt and he doesn’t even get his body position right. It’s far too easy, it’s like he’s thrown the towel in. Shaw just throws the towel in there.”
The Manchester United legend’s comments have sparked debate among fans about Shaw’s performance and the team’s defensive issues.
