Ruben Amorim Reveals What Transformed Manchester United’s Season

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim credits Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s public show of support for having a “huge impact” on the Red Devils’ season. The Old Trafford part-owner had previously stated that Amorim should be judged over a three-year period, giving the Portuguese coach stability amid early-season pressure.

Amorim’s start at United was challenging, with a 3-1 defeat at Brentford in September putting him under scrutiny. However, the team has since recovered, winning three matches and drawing two. Amorim says Ratcliffe’s backing helped calm the atmosphere around the club.

“If you remember when Jim gave the interview, it settled things down a lot around the club,” Amorim explained. “The noise changed completely, and that was really important for the team and for me. It had a huge impact—not on the way I do things—but on the way people see what we are doing.”

Amorim emphasizes that while the endorsement was meaningful, it did not change his approach. “I’m not worried about losing my job. I know clearly which path I have to follow, and that hasn’t changed,” he said.

Reflecting on his first year in charge, Amorim added: “It’s been a journey. I’ve learned a lot. Sometimes you think you are too young and you are just winning, then you face a different result and people see your work differently. It’s tough, but you learn a lot. I think I’m a better manager now and ready for both the future and the present.”

The Portuguese coach also highlighted the sense of history and responsibility at Old Trafford. “You can feel it in the manager’s dressing room with all the pictures of former managers. It’s a big responsibility, and I am very aware of how lucky I am to have this job.”
