Mohamed Salah Defends Nunez and Diaz From Fan Criticism

Mohamed Salah celebrates Liverpool Premier League title with teammates

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has hit back at a popular fan account after it mocked the departures of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez this summer.

Why Salah Reacted

A post by Anfield Edition on X (formerly Twitter) showed Diaz and Nunez in black-and-white next to Liverpool’s big-money signings Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, with the caption:

“Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.”

Salah was quick to respond, calling the post disrespectful:

“How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the Premier League champions?”

The fan account, which has over 500,000 followers, later apologised.

Diaz and Nunez’s Contributions

  • Luis Diaz – Joined Bayern Munich for €75 million.
    • 13 goals & 7 assists in 36 matches.
    • Key player in Liverpool’s 20th league title win.
  • Darwin Nunez – Transferred to Al-Hilal for €53 million.
    • 5 goals in 30 games.
    • Known for work rate, but often mocked online for missed chances.

Despite mixed stats, both players helped Liverpool secure historic success last season.

Liverpool’s Summer Spending

Liverpool reinvested heavily after their exits:

  • Florian Wirtz signed for £116 million.
  • Alexander Isak joined in a British record £125 million deal.

These signings have raised expectations, but Salah reminded fans not to forget the role Diaz and Nunez played in the club’s recent achievements.

Salah’s Wider Voice

This isn’t the first time Salah has spoken up. Recently, he also criticised UEFA for their tribute to late Palestinian legend Suleiman Al-Obeid, urging them to acknowledge the real cause of his death in Gaza.
