Chelsea winger Pedro Neto is facing disciplinary action from UEFA after pushing a ball boy during Chelsea’s 5-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
The incident happened during stoppage time at the Parc des Princes as Chelsea were chasing the game. Neto appeared frustrated while trying to retrieve the ball quickly and pushed the ball boy, causing him to fall into a nearby chair.
The situation briefly sparked a confrontation between players before things calmed down.
Pedro Neto Apologises After Ball Boy Push Incident
After the match, Neto apologised for his actions and admitted the moment came out of frustration during the game.
“I want to apologise to the ball boy. I have already spoken to him,” Neto said.
“We were losing and in the emotion of the game I wanted to get the ball fast and I gave him a little push.”
The Portuguese winger insisted the incident does not reflect his character and said he immediately tried to make things right by speaking to the ball boy and giving him his shirt after the match.
Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior also apologised for the situation and said the club does not support such behaviour.
“If there was anything from our side that was wrong or out of order, I apologise on behalf of the club,” Rosenior said.
PSG Take Control of Champions League Tie
The match itself was a dramatic one in Paris. Paris Saint-Germain took the lead twice through Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele, but Chelsea fought back with goals from Malo Gusto and Enzo Fernandez.
However, PSG regained control late in the match. Vitinha scored with a clever chip before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia added two goals to seal a convincing 5-2 victory.
Chelsea’s frustration was visible at full time, especially for goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen whose misplaced pass led to Vitinha’s goal.
The Blues will now look to regroup before facing Newcastle United in the Premier League. They will then host PSG in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16 as they attempt to overturn the deficit.
