The Super Eagles of Nigeria have safely returned home after their flight was forced to make an emergency landing following a windscreen malfunction shortly after take-off.
The team had travelled to Lesotho for a crucial World Cup qualifier, securing a 2-1 victory to boost their chances of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, their journey back took a dramatic turn when a “heavy crack” appeared on the aircraft’s windscreen just 25 minutes after departing Luanda, Angola, where they had stopped to refuel.
The pilot of the ValueJet aircraft immediately initiated emergency procedures and safely returned the plane to the airport. All passengers — including players, coaching staff, federation officials and government delegates — were evacuated without injury.
Shortly after, the Nigerian national team was seen arriving safely in Uyo, where they were greeted by relief and applause.
