Tension Remains at Liverpool as Salah Situation Overshadows Champions League Win

Liverpool may have claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Inter Milan, but the lingering fallout from Mohamed Salah’s recent outburst continues to cast a shadow over the club.

Salah was left out of the squad for the Champions League clash after publicly accusing Liverpool of “throwing him under the bus” when he was benched in the 3-3 draw with Leeds United. Coach Arne Slot admitted he had “no clue” whether the Egyptian has played his last game for the club.

After the win against Inter, Slot suggested Salah may have spoken out of frustration but hinted that the responsibility to fix the situation lies with the player. He questioned whether the initiative to make peace should come from Salah or from him.

The tension has affected the squad, with Salah being the club’s third-highest scorer of all time, and a hugely influential figure in the dressing room. Andy Robertson expressed hope that the Egyptian’s Liverpool story is not over, saying he loves playing alongside him.

Salah is expected to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations on December 15, giving Liverpool one more Premier League game to navigate before he departs.

Despite winning the league under Slot last season—with Salah contributing 34 goals and 18 assists—Liverpool have struggled to find consistency this term. Robertson stressed that the team must improve in the Champions League to meet supporters’ expectations.

Tuesday’s win provides some breathing room, but the unresolved Salah situation remains a major distraction as Liverpool look to regain stability on and off the pitch
