Thomas Tuchel reportedly has concerns about calling up Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount for England as preparations for next summer’s World Cup continue.
According to the Daily Mail, conversations around the England camp suggest that a recall for Mount is “highly unlikely”, regardless of how impressive his club form has been. The England boss is said to have reservations about the impact Mount could have on the group, with part of the concern linked to the contrasting playing styles between Tuchel and United manager Ruben Amorim.
Despite the doubts, Tuchel was seen warmly engaging with Mount and Luke Shaw after United’s recent clash with Everton. Even so, reports say Mount will need to produce something exceptional between now and the summer to change the manager’s mind.
Shaw’s absence from recent England squads has also confused Manchester United staff, who believe the full-back has done enough to earn a recall.
England have been drawn in Group L for the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Croatia, Ghana and Panama. Their path to the final, however, looks extremely difficult, with potential knockout matches against heavyweights such as Brazil, Argentina and Spain.
As the World Cup countdown intensifies, several big names will be looking to secure their place on the plane — but for now, Mount’s inclusion appears doubtful.
