Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has urged his teammates to stay united and focused after the Reds suffered their third consecutive defeat, following a 2–1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The Premier League champions have endured a difficult spell, having also lost to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray in recent matches. The defeat marks the first time manager Arne Slot has lost three games in a row across all competitions in his career.
Despite the poor run of form, Van Dijk remains confident that Liverpool can recover their rhythm, emphasizing that unity and hard work are the keys to getting back on track.
“It’s not that easy. Obviously, new players adjusting plays a part as well, but it’s a combination of everything,” Van Dijk said. “It’s down to us to work hard, defend better, create chances, and find consistency. We need everyone to support us now more than ever.”
Van Dijk Confident Liverpool Will Bounce Back
The Dutch defender, who lifted the Premier League title last season, believes that difficult moments are part of the game and that the team’s response will define their season.
“Every few days we get another opportunity to build momentum,” he added. “I’ve been at the club long enough to know that we always come back stronger. All we can do is focus on the next game and put in the work.”
Van Dijk has featured in every match for Liverpool in both the Premier League and Champions League this season. However, the team has managed just two clean sheets in ten games.
Following the international break, Liverpool will face Manchester United in what Van Dijk described as a crucial opportunity to regain confidence and rediscover their championship mentality.
“When we return, we have a big game against Manchester United,” he said. “It’s time to show why we were champions last year — by working hard, finding consistency, and sticking together.”
