Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has expressed doubts about current manager Ruben Amorim’s future at the club following a disappointing run of results.
Rooney was speaking after Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Brentford, a result that leaves the Red Devils with only two league wins so far, sitting in 14th place. United have also been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town.
On the Wayne Rooney Show, the former striker said:
“Ruben Amorim is my age, a bit younger, he’s still a young manager. I’m sure he has a great future. But what is going on at Man United? I don’t recognise the whole football club.
I honestly hope he can turn it round and he does. But if you’re saying to me, ‘do you believe he will?’, then, after everything I’ve seen, honestly, I’ve got no faith in it.”
Rooney’s comments add to the growing debate over Amorim’s ability to stabilize Manchester United amid a challenging start to the season.
