We’ve Already Beaten Nigeria – Benin Coach Rohr Eyes 2026 World Cup Qualification

Benin coach Gernot Rohr confident of 2026 World Cup qualification

Benin Republic head coach, Gernot Rohr, has expressed strong optimism about his team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Leopards currently sit second in Group C with 14 points, just three behind leaders South Africa. With only two fixtures left to play, Rohr believes his side has every opportunity to either finish as group winners or secure a spot among the best-ranked runners-up.

“There are two games left and anything is still possible. With 14 points now, we have the chance to finish first in the group, but also to be among the best runners-up,” Rohr said.

Rohr on Benin’s Strength and Progress

The former Super Eagles boss praised his team’s recent performances, stressing that their defensive solidity and unity have been key to their success.

“We absolutely must continue on this path. The team has become balanced, it no longer concedes goals. It fights together.

We remain hopeful without falling into excessive optimism. We know it will be difficult. We know Rwanda; we have already beaten Nigeria here. So yes, anything is possible.”

The Road Ahead

Benin will now be aiming to maintain their form in the final two matches, knowing that a win against direct rivals could make history for the nation. A first-ever World Cup qualification would be a landmark achievement for Rohr and his players.
