49ers restructure Jake Brendel’s contract to clear cap space

The San Francisco 49ers are making some salary cap space this spring.

The team reportedly converted $3.02 million of center Jake Brendel’s 2026 contract into a signing bonus, according to Spotrac, which cleared around $2.265 million of cap space. The restructure means Brendal will cost $3.14 million against the cap in 2026, with a $3.6 million cap hit in 2027 that is a void year.

Brendel is expected to remain the 49ers’ starting center in 2026 with his new contract. He’s started his past 34 games with San Francisco, including 15 in 2025. Brendel missed Weeks 8 and 9 this past season after not missing a game in his previous three seasons with the team.

Brendel joined the 49ers in 2021 after time with the Dallas Cowboys, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens.

With the move, the 49ers are expected to have around $69.9 million in salary cap space for the 2026 season.
