Six area baseball and softball teams will begin their quests for state titles in the first round of the PIAA tournament Monday.
In softball, District 5-6 Class 3A champion Westmont Hilltop (19-3) hosts District 7 No. 3 seed Ellwood City (16-6) at West Suburban Little League’s Miller Field at 4 p.m. District 5-6 Class 3A runner-up Bedford (20-2) travels to District 3 champion Susquenita (22-1) at 4:30 p.m.
District 5 Class 1A champion Berlin Brothersvalley (20-2) hosts District 7 runner-up Carmichaels (17-4) at 4:30 p.m. for the second year in a row. District 5 Class 1A runner-up Meyersdale (14-7) makes the trek to four-time District 6 champ Claysburg-Kimmel (19-4) at 4 p.m.
In baseball, District 5-8-9 Class 3A subregional champion Bedford (8-14) hosts District 7 runner-up South Park (15-6) at 4:30 p.m.
District 5-9 Class 4A subregional champ Somerset (16-5) travels to defending state and District 7 champion Indiana (18-4) at 4:30 p.m.
