Patrick Mahomes reacts to KC picking Mansoor Delane in 2026 NFL Draft

The Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t afford to exit Round 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft without adding a top defensive back, and general manager Brett Veach knew exactly which player he wanted to take off his board first.

After executing a trade-up with the Cleveland Browns for the No. 6 overall pick, Veach moved swiftly to select LSU Tigers defensive back Mansoor Delane.

Arguably the top ball-hawk in his class, Delane is expected to make significant contributions to Kansas City’s defensive efforts as a rookie and may develop into one of the team’s brightest stars.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes voiced his approval for Veach’s selection of Delane in a post to his official Twitter account during Round 1 on April 23:

While it is too soon to tell if Delane will make good on the promise that helped get him selected with the No. 6 overall pick, fans can be certain of one thing: Mahomes was thrilled to see Kansas City take a blue-chip defensive prospect in the 2026 NFL Draft.
