The Detroit Tigers got some tough news on Tuesday when both Javier Baez and Casey Mize left the game early with injuries.
After such mid-game news due to an injury scare, it was a waiting game for the bad news to drop on both players. And such news did come just one day later.
According to Evan Petzold of The Detroit Free Press, the Tigers have placed Mize on the 15-day injured list, and to fill his roster spot, they’re calling up lefty reliever Emmanuel De Jesus.
Tigers place Casey Mize on IL, recall Emmanuel De Jesus
“Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize has been placed on the injured list,” Petzold writes. “To replace Mize, the Tigers recalled left-handed reliever Emmanuel De Jesus from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, April 29.”
This is some massively unfortunate news for the Tigers, a team that has already dealt with a few injuries to their rotation for this season.
Justin Verlander is already on the injured list, and coming into the year, Jackson Jobe, Troy Melton, and Reese Olson were all going to miss a lot of time.

Mize was pitching well for the Tigers, posting a 2.90 ERA with 35 strikeouts and a 2-2 record through six outings this season.
He came out in the middle of his latest outing due to a groin injury, departing from his start against the Atlanta Braves early after just 2.1 innings.
Detroit is now down another key pitcher, as they’ve lost a key righty in Mize this season, leaving Jack Flaherty and Keider Montero as the only righties in the rotation at the moment.
