UNC frontcourt takes hit with transfer shake-up

North Carolina’s frontcourt has taken another hit with the loss of a key transfer portal pickup, as forward Maxim Logue will no longer be joining the Tar Heels.

Logue committed to UNC on April 21 after playing for Florida Atlantic last season. With Logue off the commitment list, coach Michael Malone now has four transfer portal additions, three incoming high school recruits and three returning players in line for next season.

The loss hurts UNC’s frontcourt depth but the Tar Heels still appear well-positioned with international standout Sayon Keita and Jarin Stevenson returning after he contributed as both a starter and sixth man. UNC also is bringing in Northwestern transfer Cade Bennerman.

Logue, a 6-foot-9 forward, averaged 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds off the bench for the Owls this season, shooting 67.4% from the field. He played in 28 games for FAU, averaging 11.1 minutes.

His top performances included 16 points, 10 rebounds and three steals against Charlotte, and 15 points and eight rebounds against Saint Mary’s. He also played at Oregon State in the 2024-25 season, averaging 6.6 minutes in 21 games.
