The Jets spent the offseason preparing for their QB of the future

The New York Jets entered the offseason needing to address the quarterback position. Stuck with the No. 2 overall pick in a one-quarterback draft, the Jets knew they didn’t have a chance at Fernando Mendoza. General manager Darren Mougey traded for veteran Geno Smith as a temporary solution.

The Jets took the best pass rusher in the NFL Draft at No. 2 overall in David Bailey. With the 16th selection, Mougey took former Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq. Sadiq was a borderline top-10 prospect who should have a profound impact on the offense.

Mougey then executed a surprise by trading back into the first round for Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. Cooper Jr. is an exciting prospect who may answer the long-term question mark at WR2 opposite Garrett Wilson.

The Jets have spent the offseason preparing for their eventual quarterback of the future. Whenever Mougey makes a decision on drafting a first-round quarterback, that signal caller will inherit an exciting supporting cast. He’ll have Wilson and Cooper Jr. at wide receiver with Sadiq and Mason Taylor at tight end.

The Jets will have running back Breece Hall on a long-term contract. The offensive line has bookends at offensive tackle in Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou. That young quarterback will immediately be placed in a good situation for success.

The 2027 NFL Draft is being billed as potentially historic. Possible quarterbacks in the draft include Texas’ Arch Manning, Oregon’s Dante Moore, South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, Notre Dame’s CJ Carr, and Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker. With three first-round picks at their disposal and a rebuilding roster, the Jets should be well-positioned to select a quarterback they’ve already been preparing for.
