Here’s the next step for Reds’ Eugenio Suárez in injury recovery

PHILADELPHIA − Eugenio Suárez will be flying and driving around quite a bit starting Monday, May 18, but at least it’s all in the name in moving him into live baseball action as he continues his injury recovery.

Suárez woke up in Philadelphia on May 18 and he’ll rest his head in Cincinnati to end the day. Then, he’s scheduled to drive to Louisville on Tuesday, May 19, and he’ll suit up with the Louisville Bats after a bus ride to Columbus to face the Clippers on Wednesday, May 20, at Huntington Park.

Reds manager Terry Francona on May 18 announced the latest developments in the Suárez injury situation as he continues his recovery from a left oblique strain. Francona said Suárez would depart from Philadelphia, where the team has three games against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, and return to Cincinnati. Suárez will then join up with Triple-A Louisville, taking batting practice and working out with the team Tuesday, May 19 prior to playing two games this week: Wednesday, May 20 (12:05 p.m. at Columbus) and Thursday, May 21 (12:05 p.m. at Columbus).

Suárez will be Louisville’s designated hitter in the first game and its third baseman in the second game.

Suárez last played April 22 against the Tampa Bay Rays, and went on the 10-day injured list after he was a late scratch from a April 24 game against the Detroit Tigers at Great American Ball Park. The team felt Suárez’s absence in the 24 days since that lineup scratch.

Cincinnati had a 4-13 record in May entering the first game of the three-game set with Philadelphia. They’re 8-15 in Suárez’s absence.
