Gary Neville has called on Manchester United to do everything to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest this summer.
Anderson’s future is set to be one of the stories of the summer transfer window with several top teams keen to sign the England midfielder.
The 23-year-old has had a standout season at the City Ground, with his performances having been recognised with a regular role in Thomas Tuchel’s England team.
He is expected to be named in the 2026 World Cup provisional squad on Friday and feature prominently at the tournament this summer.
Anderson impressed despite defeat for Forest at Manchester United in thePremier League on Sunday, providing both assists in his side’s 3-2 loss at Old Trafford.
Manchester United have made Anderson a top target ahead of a planned summer rebuild, though Manchester City are understood to be frontrunners.
Neville was left hugely impressed by Anderson’s performance at the weekend, and urged his former team to push hard for a deal. He praised Anderson’s desire to play forward and said he is the ‘outstanding candidate’ to headline the club’s summer business.
“Manchester United need to look at players that are either very young and have a hunger to grow orPremier League-ready players and Elliot Anderson is that,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“What I like about Anderson is the fact that he looks forward and he contributes. The two crosses for the goals, were exceptional.
“I see too many crabs playing central midfield. You can’t have too many people who play five-yard passes back and sideways. You need to put players in there who are going to look forward and punch passes through the lines and have their head up.
“Elliot Anderson can do that. He can take set-pieces. So for me, he would be an outstanding candidate to come here.”
