As poorly as the 2025-26 season has gone for Liverpool, it’s gone quite a bit worse for West Ham. London’s Hammers appear a near-lock for relegation, as they would both need to beat Leeds on the final day and for Spurs to earn no points from their final two matches against Chelsea and Everton.
If, as expected, West Ham do go down, there’s going to be a need to bring in around £100M through sales to survive the drop to the second tier while staying financially compliant. And perhaps their most saleable asset is widely agreed to be 29-year-old England international Jarrod Bowen.
Despite being linked regularly with a move away from West Ham over the years, Bowen had to all appearances made peace with seeing things out at West Ham when he signed a new contract running through 2030, but relegation would potentially change the math for the player—and for the club.
Into that mix, The Guardian claim that Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool are all highly interested. Bowen’s homegrown status and ability to play in multiple attacking positions would clearly appeal to any top Premier League side. All, though, will be aware of some important caveats.
The biggest one, of course, is age. He’s a month older than Luis Diaz, who the Reds judged too old to give the lucrative contract that would have kept the Colombian happy on Merseyside last summer when sporting director Richard Hughes shipped him to Bayern Munich to Liverpool’s detriment.
There’s also the part where Bowen, despite his homegrown status, has never quite done enough to convince a top club that he’s worth the investment it would take to pry him away from West Ham. All of Chelsea, United, and the Reds might be interested, then—but it would only be at the right price.
If West Ham are dreaming of a £50M+ windfall for Bowen that helps them to survive the drop, it’s hard to see any of the interested clubs paying up rather than looking for better value elsewhere on the market. For the right price, though, he’d certainly make for a valuable depth addition for any.
