How well did the Las Vegas Raiders do in the 2023 NFL Draft in retrospect? The Raiders made nine selections in the draft that year that proved to be consequential for the franchise in more ways than one.
According to CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco in his regrading of the collection of talent that all 32 NFL teams came away with in the 2023 draft, the Raiders got an “F” for the selections that they made that year after originally receiving a “B+” in the immediate aftermath of the event.
“I loved the pick of Wilson in the first and also liked fourth-round corner Jakorian Bennett, who is now with the Eagles. He did start for the Raiders before the trade to Philly. I didn’t love Tucker in the third, but he has been OK. I did think they had a good draft. The reality is it’s below average with the big miss on Wilson, who is now with the Saints after being traded there in April.”
The Raiders selected edge rusher Tyree Wilson, tight end Michael Mayer, defensive tackle Byron Young, wide receiver Tre Tucker, cornerback Jakorian Bennett, quarterback Aidan O’Connell, safety Chris Smith II, linebacker Amari Burney and DT Nesta Jade Silvera in the draft that year.
The Raiders’ draftees from 2023 helped the team improve from the 6-11 record they earned in 2022 to 8-9 the following year. However, none of Las Vegas’ rookies from that season have garnered Pro Bowl or All-Pro honors in their careers thus far, and only Tucker, O’Connell and Mayer remain on the roster heading into the 2026 season.
Save Tucker, the Raiders did not select players in the 2023 draft that have had a long-lasting impact on the team. Tucker, O’Connell and Mayer will have another opportunity to help the Raiders improve as a team in 2026.
