San Angelo Independent School District announced the hiring of Jon-Reese Woodson as the new boys basketball coach at Lake View High School on Monday, May 18.
Woodson finds his way to the north side from Buffalo High School, where he led the boys basketball program to a 22-17 record and a regional semifinal appearance, earning the district’s Coach of the Year honor.
“I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to lead the Lake View High School Chiefs as the new head basketball coach,” Woodson said. “This is a special opportunity for me, and I’m truly grateful to join a school and community that takes so much pride in its traditions.
“My goal is to help our players grow both individually and as a team — not just as basketball players, but as young men. I believe in building a program centered around hard work, accountability, discipline and character. We’ll have high expectations on the court, in the classroom and in how we represent our school every day. I’m ready to get to work, invest in our student-athletes and help build something special that the entire Lake View community can be proud of.”
Prior to his time at Buffalo, Woodson served as the coach at Woodsboro and spent four years as an assistant coach at Midland High.
Woodson inherits a Chiefs team that finished 24-13 last season, which was one of its winningest teams in years. However, they were bounced out of the postseason by Graham in the bi-district round.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Woodson to San Angelo ISD and Lake View High School,” SAISD Athletic Director Rodney Chant said. “Coach Woodson stood out in the interview process for his passion for kids, high energy, organization and his success the last couple of years at Buffalo High School.”
