On Wednesday night, the Indiana Fever are set to take on the Portland Fire, looking to build on their win over the Seattle Storm from Sunday night. That match would see the likes of Kelsey Mitchell and Sophie Cunningham take over for the Fever, combining for 34 points.
But neither of these two would match the numbers that Caitlin Clark was putting up, as she would end the night with 21 points, seven rebounds, and ten assists, with a flawless shooting performance from the free-throw line.
Clark’s performance against Seattle would continue her streak of scoring 20 or more points a night, having done it in each game this season, with her season-high 32 points coming in Indiana’s loss to the Washington Spirit in mid-May.
Clark to miss Wednesday night’s action
It appears that Clark will have to wait for another night to build on this streak, as she has been ruled out of Wednesday night’s action against Portland due to a back injury, according to the WNBA’s injury report.
It will leave Indiana without its leading scorer for the first time this season, meaning others on the team will have to fill in the void left by the 24-year-old.
While it is the first time Clark will sit out this season, this isn’t something exactly new for the Fever, as she missed 31 regular-season games last season, a stretch of games that they’d post a 16-15 record without the former number one overall pick on the court.
Tip-off between the Fever and Fire is slated for 7:00 p.m. EST.
