Barcelona in no hurry to renew superstar forward’s contract despite Lewandowski’s exit

Barcelona are taking a patient approach regarding the future of Ferran Torres, with the club currently showing no urgency to begin negotiations over a new contract despite the attacker’s deal running until 2027, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Notably, the forward will now head into the summer and the upcoming World Cup without clarity over his long-term future at Camp Nou.

That situation, however, should not be viewed as a warning sign.

Within Barcelona, the feeling is that Ferran’s case can comfortably wait because the club still has bigger attacking decisions to resolve first.

The sporting department is currently focused on understanding what the frontline could look like once Robert Lewandowski leaves.

At this stage, Barcelona are being extremely careful about how they build the squad.

The club is exploring the market for future attacking reinforcements and possible long-term number nine options.

That naturally affects discussions involving Ferran because Barcelona want a clearer picture of the project before handing out fresh long-term contracts.

Now, Ferran’s versatility works strongly in his favour. At the same time, though, Barcelona are also aware that they still need financial balance.

Importantly, there is no indication that Barcelona are unhappy with Ferran’s performances or salary situation.

In fact, that is one of the reasons there is no panic, as the club believe the current conditions remain manageable while they focus on larger priorities elsewhere in the squad.

So what now?

Ironically, Barcelona do not see Ferran as a player needing constant evaluation every few months.

Hence, if the club fails to secure their preferred striker targets in the market, his role could actually become even more important than expected.

That possibility explains why the club is refusing to rush into a final decision right now.
