Boston Red Sox pitcher Sonny Gray was frustrated with his performance against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday.
Gray took the ball on Sunday afternoon as Boston looked to avoid being swept by the Twins. The veteran had been stellar since returning from an injury, but on Sunday, he had a frustrating performance.
With the weather not being the best due to rain and it being cold, Gray said it was tough to deal with. But, he felt like he could have done much better than he did.
“It was tough,” Gray said postgame on Sunday. “No way around it. I could have been better. It was tough out there.”
Gray went just four innings allowing three runs on six hits, while he struck out four. Although Gray wasn’t pleased with his outing, interim manger Chad Tracy felt like the veteran did well, as he felt like Gray grinned through the start when it could have been worse.
“He was grinding, really from the first inning,” Tracy said. “I appreciate the grind because there were moments where it could have got worse and more runs added.”
Although Tracy was happy with how Gray handled his start, Boston did lose 6-5 to be swept by the Twins on Sunday.
As for Gray, he’s now 5-1 with a 3.27 ERA in nine starts this season.
