DESTINEE HERRERA

School: Oxnard

Year: Sophomore

Sport: Softball

Comment: The sophomore ace was dominant in the circle last week to help lead the Yellowjackets to the CIF-SS Division 4 championship game. On Wednesday, Herrera didn’t allow an earned run in 11 innings, striking out nine while throwing 112 of her 147 pitches for strikes, and drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th to give Oxnard a 5-4 win over St. Bonaventure in a quarterfinal game. She pitched a four-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and no walks to lead the Yellowjackets to a 1-0 win over Monrovia on Saturday in a semifinal game. Herrera hasn’t allowed an earned run in 30 postseason innings. Oxnard will play Mission Viejo for the Division 4 title this weekend in Irvine.

HAEDEN WEBER

School: Ventura

Year: Junior

Sport: Golf

Comment: The junior shot an even-par 72 at the CIF-Southern Section Individuals and SCGA Qualifier last Thursday at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard to advance to the state regional qualifier. Weber fired a 67 to finish sixth out of 130 players at the CIF-SS Northern Regional Tournament on May 11 at Los Robles Greens Golf Course after earning all-Channel League second-team honors. He will play at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills on Thursday, May 28, with a chance to advance to the state tournament, which will be held June 3 at San Gabriel Country Club. Weber’s scoring average is 72.6 for 18 holes.
