When the New York Mets made a trade for right-hander Freddy Peralta, the hope was that Peralta would not only have a chance to continue being one of the better starters in Major League Baseball but also be a guy who could put the Mets over the top.

Peralta was one of the biggest offseason additions for any team in Major League Baseball, though obviously, it hasn’t worked out the way the Mets have been hoping for.

That isn’t really his fault, as Peralta has still been very good and put up similar numbers to what he has throughout his career, but the Mets are currently the worst team in the National League at 22-33, and it doesn’t look like anything is going to change anytime soon.

With his upcoming free agency, some have questioned whether he wants to stay in New York or be traded at the deadline to join a new team. According to the latest from The Athletic, Peralta hopes that the Mets can turn things around.

“Freddy Peralta maintains hope that the New York Mets are going to turn things around. And that they won’t end up trading him before the Aug. 3 deadline…” Will Sammon wrote.

“Plenty of teams are eyeing him this summer for the same reason the Mets sent two consensus top-100 prospects to the Milwaukee Brewers last winter to get him: He might not be an ace, but he’s a proven frontline starter. Barring a Tarik Skubal trade, Peralta would probably be the best pitcher available.”

If Peralta really wants to stay in New York and is hopeful that the Mets will eventually turn things around, he can probably stop all of this by taking an extension.
