A Manchester City starlet has had a taste of first-team football, and perhaps another loan spell beckons

Manchester City sent Divine Mukasa out on loan to Leicester City for the second half of the 2025-26 season. Unfortunately for Leicester City, they were relegated to League One after finishing 23rd in the Championship. The experience of playing in a team battling relegation should see Mukasa return to City with more of an edge to his play. Also, the experience of playing in the Championship will have benefited Mukasa’s development as a player. Looking ahead to next season, perhaps another loan spell beckons for Divine Mukasa, as a loan spell in the right environment should do wonders for his growth as a player.

Divine Mukasa showed signs out on loan at Leicester City, but at times he struggled to impose himself.

Across all competitions for Leicester City, Divine Mukasa made fifteen appearances. He started eleven of those matches. The England youth international scored two goals and added three assists and showed flashes of his undoubted talent at Leicester City. Mukasa’s eye for a defence-splitting pass stood out, and perhaps if he were out on loan in a better team, he’d have more of an impact in the Championship. Mukasa’s dribbling caught the eye, as did his ability to play in tight spaces. The education that Mukasa has received at Manchester City was on display more often than not for Leicester City.

One area of Divine Mukasa’s game that needs improvement is his consistency. At times, Mukasa would drift out of games for Leicester. Given that he is 18 years of age, that isn’t a surprise. Mukasa was also substituted in seven of his eleven starts. So his fitness does need to improve, as does his ability to remain a factor in matches. Once again, these attributes will improve as Mukasa matures.

Another loan move for the 2026-27 season may be the best move for Manchester City and Divine Mukasa.

Looking ahead to the 2026-27 season, it is expected that Divine Mukasa will report to preseason training for Manchester City. With how many players City have playing in this summer’s World Cup, it is almost a given that Mukasa will begin preseason with the City first team. From there, another loan move may be best for Divine Mukasa for next season.

Perhaps, a loan move to a higher quality Championship side than Leicester City were this season is the next step for Mukasa to take. Preferably one that plays attacking football. That way, Mukasa can try and force his way into a prominent role in a better quality team. The challenge of establishing himself as a starter at a higher level side will be right in front of Divine Mukasa. That may be exactly what Mukasa needs to begin to fulfil his undoubted potential.

The lessons of spending the second half of the season on loan at Leicester City should set Mukasa up for what comes next, whether that be Manchester City’s preseason or another loan spell for the 2026-27 season. Divine Mukasa does seem destined to one day be a Manchester City first-team player. The 2026-27 season may be a crucial step in the process of Mukasa making that leap.
