This week it’s Black Lounge guitarist and huge Arsenal fan, Ben Gulik.
Can you sum up just how it feels for the long wait to finally be over and to be Premier League champions again?
Pure elation! I continue to catch myself every couple of hours remembering Arsenal are champions of England, followed by a stupid grin. I was five-years-old when we last won it, so this is the first one I’ll properly remember.
What was the moment you believed you would do it? Or has it still not sunk in yet?I
was pretty sure Man City would pull something off against Bournemouth, so it’s still really sinking in. Knowing Arsenal, I was expecting it to come down to the final day of the season.
Who has been your Player of the Season?
[David] Raya, for sure. He is a world-class goalkeeper and kept us in the points time and time again.
What has been your favourite Goal of the Season?
[Eberechi] Eze against Leverkusen. Henry-esque. So, so good.
What was your standout moment of the season – if you have to pick one?
Probably Eze’s hat trick against Tottenham. You couldn’t help but feel proud for the guy, coming back to his boyhood club after all these years and putting three away against the spuds.
And a word for Mikel Arteta. From where he took Arsenal when taking over to now, surely it has surpassed even your best expectations?
It has 100% surpassed them. I’ve seen the slander online over the years but never got behind it. He told us to trust the process and here we are! He’s completely overhauled our club and pulled us out of the swamp we found ourselves in 7-8 years ago. I’d say on behalf of Arsenal fans all across the world: thank you for everything you’ve done, let’s not stop here. The foundation is set and now we’ve got years of competing for titles ahead of us.
Lastly, will they go on now and make it a double in the Champions League Final?
I’d say the pressure has been lifted slightly having won the Prem and ended the 22 year wait. We’ve proven we’re one of the best teams in the world, so now we can go out there and play a great game of football and dream to do what we’ve never done before! Up the Gunners!
