LINCOLN, NE — There is a chance that Ole Miss baseball returns to Swayze Field this season.
Ole Miss is in control of the Lincoln Regional. The No. 2 Rebels beat No. 1 Nebraska 6-3 on May 31 in the Lincoln Regional at Haymarket Park.
Ole Miss needs to win one of its next two games to advance to a super regional. The first chance will be on May 30 (7 p.m., ESPN+).
Auburn is the host team in the opposite region that will face the winner of the Lincoln Regional. The Tigers, who entered the Tournament as the No. 1 overall seed, are not in the same position as Ole Miss.
Auburn lost 13-8 to No. 4 Milwaukee in the first game of its regional on May 29. The Tigers beat No. 3 NC State on May 30 to stay alive.
How Ole Miss baseball could host super regional
If Auburn comes out of the losers bracket to win its regional, the Tigers will host the super regional.
If Auburn loses, the right to host goes to the higher-ranked team that advanced to the series. The NCAA ranked the top 36 teams in the field but only publicized the top 16 host seeds.
By nature of being No. 2 seeds, Ole Miss and UCF, who is still alive in the Auburn Regional, are both in the top 36 seeds. Because Ole Miss was sent to face the No. 13 overall seed in Nebraska, and UCF was sent to face the No. 4 overall seed in Auburn, it’s likely that Ole Miss is ranked higher in the NCAA’s rankings.
Ole Miss would host for certain if No. 4 Milwaukee wins the Auburn Regional. Milwaukee has started 2-0.
Ole Miss baseball super regional history
Ole Miss has gotten to a super regional eight times since 2005, most recently in 2022 at Southern Miss.
The Rebels have hosted a super regional in Oxford three times (2005, 2006, 2009). Ole Miss did not win any of those series.
