The San Antonio Spurs are preparing for an NBA Finals showdown with the New York Knicks, a team that has drawn attention for their run to the championship stage. However, not everyone is convinced by the narrative surrounding the Knicks’ rise, with former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant openly backing the Spurs.

The conversation escalated after a fan said that the Spurs benefited from facing injury-hit opponents throughout their playoff run. Bryant quickly fired back, pushing the claim in the opposite direction.

“Every team the Knicks played was weak and injured!” Bryant tweeted.

The Spurs’ journey to the Finals has been widely praised, as their dramatic turnaround from a lottery team to championship contenders has been one of the league’s biggest stories this season. Their dominant showing against the Oklahoma City Thunder particularly stood out, as the Spurs controlled the series in a way few expected and effectively halted what had been a historic campaign for Oklahoma City.

As the Spurs head into the Finals, questions remain about how the Knicks will handle their challenge. Some argue the Knicks have yet to face a defensive unit as strong as the Spurs or a game-changing presence like Victor Wembanyama. That contrast has also ignited debate about how competitive the series will be.

Meanwhile, Bryant also made a bold prediction about the matchup, predicting a one-sided outcome.

“Knicks might get 🧹 … real talk!” Bryant tweeted.

The Knicks have proven resilient throughout their playoff run and are expected to present a serious challenge.

The Knicks defeated the Spurs in this season’s NBA Cup Final, while the Spurs famously beat the Knicks in the 1999 NBA Finals, the last time the Knicks reached this stage. Meanwhile, Rick Brunson once faced the Spurs in that 1999 series as a member of the Knicks, and Jeremy Sochan has connections to both organizations this season.
