It was announced on Monday that Pro Football Hall of Famer and former New England Patriots head coach Raymond Berry passed away May 25 at the age of 93.

Berry played 13 NFL seasons — all with the Baltimore Colts — from 1955 to 1967, earned six Pro Bowl honors, three First Team All-Pro nods and two championships and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1973.

He joined the Patriots as the receivers coach in 1978 and took over as head coach ahead of the 1984 season.

Berry led New England to its first Super Bowl appearance during the 1985 campaign, which ended with a loss to the Chicago Bears in the big game.

He concluded his career on the sidelines as the Detroit Lions quarterbacks coach in 1991 and in the same role with the Denver Broncos in 1992.

Patriots chairman and CEO Robert Kraft was among those to comment on Berry’s passing.
