Browns newly acquired DE Jared Verse’s jersey number revealed

At least the new Cleveland Brownsedge rusher, Jared Verse, does not have to get used to the Ohio weather. Despite spending his remaining eligibility at the college level at Florida State for two seasons, and spending his first two seasons in Los Angeles, Verse is a native of Dayton, Ohio, and now gets to return to his home state.

However, the biggest question that remained for Verse after being shipped to Cleveland in the Myles Garrett trade is what jersey number he will wear. With the Rams, he wore No. 8, but that number is currently occupied by second-year quarterback and former third round pick Dillon Gabriel. So, will Verse pay Gabriel for the number, or will he choose a new one?

We have our answer, sort of.

Verse has gotten his old number back. According to the Browns’ updated roster, he has been assigned the number 8. Here is Verse in his original No. 8, the jersey number he wore with the Rams:

However, to add a wrinkle to this saga, Gabriel is also wearing the same number at OTAs on Wednesday. One has to think that Gabriel will be getting new threads, and the time crunch to get that all worked out in time was too tight. We’ll follow up tomorrow to see what number Gabriel will be wearing.
