Manchester City have re-signed goalkeeper Pierce Charles from Sheffield Wednesday.
The Northern Ireland international has penned a five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Charles will have to wait at least a year to make his City first-team debut.
The 20-year-old has joined Queens Park Rangers on a season-long loan.
It comes after Wrexham missed out on landing the stopper for the upcoming campaign.
Charles has joined up with his new QPR team-mates for their pre-season training camp in Austria.
His Hoops debut could come as early as Saturday, with a friendly against First Vienna scheduled.
Meanwhile, QPR will face Millwall in the Carabao Cup first round at Loftus Road on Saturday, August 8.
Julien Stephan’s side then begin their Championship campaign away to Portsmouth seven days later.
Charles becomes his third new signing of the summer alongside fellow goalkeeper Calum Ward and left-back Boy Kemper.
City return
The keeper’s move to City sees him return to his boyhood club six years after leaving the academy to join Wednesday.
Prior to his exit, Charles won the Under-18 Premier League title aged just 15.
During his time at Wednesday, he made 36 first-team appearances for the Owls.
However, he was unable to save the club from relegation last term after they were deducted a total of 18 points across the campaign.
Charles’ older brother Shea also began his career in the City academy before moving to Southampton in 2023.
The midfielder later linked up with his brother at the Owls during a loan spell two seasons ago.
City signings
It has already been a busy summer at City under new manager Enzo Maresca, with Charles the club’s third new signing.
He follows Elliot Anderson and Mathys Detourbet in arriving in Manchester.
The former has signed from Nottingham Forest for a British-record £116million fee.
As for Detourbet, the teenage winger has since moved on loan to Monaco since his arrival from Troyes.
