Inter Milan have held talks with Tottenham Hotspur over signing Cristian Romero, the club’s sporting director has confirmed.
The Spurs captain is expected to leave the club this summer despite signing a new deal last year.
Romero penned a contract extension through to 2029 last August.
However, his future now appears to be away from north London following last season’s relegation battle.

talkSPORT understands the 28-year-old’s preference would be to secure a move to LaLiga with Barcelona keen. However, the Spanish champions are yet to make an approach for Romero.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have even been urged to launch a move for Romero this summer.
Inter are currently pushing to complete a deal to bring the defender to Italy, though.
Sporting director Piero Ausilio has confirmed discussions have been held with both Spurs and Romero’s representatives.
Speaking to Sky Italy, Ausilio explained: “It’s definitely a deal we are trying to sign with the player and the club.
“These things take some time but there’s definitely interest. Let’s see.
“We are interested in signing Cuti Romero. We have met his agent and we have already talked with Tottenham. Let’s see what happens.”
Inter’s desire to bring in a centre-back this summer follows the departures of Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi.
Their exits have left Cristian Chivu with just four recognised central defenders in Alessandro Bastoni, Yann Bisseck, Manuel Akanji and Benjamin Pavard.
However, Pavard has only recently returned to the club following a loan spell at Marseille.
Meanwhile, both Bastoni and Bisseck have been linked with potential moves away from the San Siro ahead of the new season.
Romero latest
Romero has not yet returned to pre-season training having been given an extended break following the World Cup.
He was part of the Argentina side which reached the final where they lost to Spain on July 19.
His Spurs teammates, meanwhile, are currently on a pre-season tour of New Zealand and Australia.
Roberto De Zerbi’s squad will return to north London following their final fixture of the trip against Chelsea on Saturday.
Tottenham begin the new Premier League season away to Brentford on Saturday August 22.
