Barcelona’s Fermin Lopez Out for Three Weeks with Muscle Injury

Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez will miss three weeks of action after suffering a muscle injury in the 3-0 LaLiga win over Getafe, the club confirmed on Monday.

The 22-year-old Spain international picked up the knock late in Sunday’s match at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, shortly after coming on as a second-half substitute. Lopez, who has been in fine form this season, recently scored a brace in Barcelona’s emphatic 6-0 victory against Valencia.

Barcelona released a statement on X (formerly Twitter), confirming the details of the injury:

“The player Fermin Lopez has an iliopsoas muscle injury in his left leg. He will be out of action for around three weeks.”

Key Matches He Will Miss

The injury means Lopez will be unavailable for Barcelona’s crucial Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain on October 1, a major blow for Xavi’s squad depth.

He will also sit out Barca’s upcoming LaLiga fixture against Real Oviedo on Thursday, as the Catalans continue to chase leaders Real Madrid, who are currently two points ahead at the top of the table.

Barcelona’s Current Situation

The reigning LaLiga champions have started the season strongly but cannot afford more injury setbacks, with a busy schedule ahead in both domestic and European competitions.

Lopez’s absence leaves Xavi with fewer midfield options, and his creativity and energy will surely be missed.
