Former Aston Villa attacker Gabriel Agbonlahor has labeled Manchester United striker Benjamin Šeško a coward following the club’s shocking Carabao Cup defeat to League Two side Grimsby Town.
The Red Devils were eliminated in the second round after a 12-11 penalty shootout loss, despite coming back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 during regulation time.
Agbonlahor criticized Šeško’s decision to delay taking one of the penalties, insisting the former RB Leipzig striker should have stepped up confidently rather than letting other players take their chances first.
“Your star striker was probably waiting for the Man United groundsman to turn up to Grimsby and take the penalty. He was 10th in line before the keeper. How can your star striker let all the defenders take a penalty before you, then he takes one and scores it? That shows to me that he’s a coward as well,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT.
Another new signing, Cunha, had his penalty saved, while Bryan Mbeumo missed his second attempt in the shootout. Šeško joined Manchester United this summer for a reported £74 million from RB Leipzig.
The former Aston Villa star’s comments have added fuel to the discussion about Manchester United’s struggles in the 2025-26 season, following their shocking early exit from the Carabao Cup.
