Alisson Becker back in contention: Liverpool boost as Slot hints at shock Crystal Palace return

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Alisson Becker could return against Crystal Palace this weekend.

The Brazil international has missed the last threePremier League games with a hamstring injury, including last weekend’s Merseyside Derby win at Everton, which saw replacement Giorgi Mamardashvili suffer a knee issue.

Third-choice Freddie Woodman was introduced as a substitute to make his Liverpool league debut, and firstPremier League appearance in five years.

Woodman had been expected to start against Palace this weekend, but Slot has confirmed Alisson is unexpectedly back in contention.

The Dutchman revealed that Mamardashvili is facing ‘weeks’ on the sideline with his issue.

“No Giorgi [Mamardashvili] will definitely not be available tomorrow and not for the upcoming weeks,” Slot said at hispre-match press conference.

“Alli [Alisson] is close to returning to play. Let’s see if tomorrow comes too early.

“That leaves Freddie [Woodman] as an option who is definitely fit.”
