Anthony Gordon agrees Bayern Munich transfer but stumbling block remains amid Arsenal interest

Anthony Gordon has agreed terms with Bayern Munich, talkSPORT can reveal.

However, there remains a significant gulf between Bayern and the Magpies after the clubs began talks.

Newcastle are seeking £75million or more for their winger, who has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season.

And there is optimism that the club’s valuation will be met, given the volume of initial interest.

Arsenal also appreciate Gordon, while Liverpool hold a historical interest, having come close to signing him in 2024.

But the Reds are not expected to enter the race this summer.

Bayern have made signing another winger their main priority in the upcoming transfer window, after winning the Bundesliga title.

And Gordon emerged as one of their top targets in April, with the German giants now making their move.

The 25-year-old agreeing terms represents a big step and one that could end up with Newcastle letting him go.

His current contract at St. James’ Park runs through until 2030, after he signed a new long-term deal two years ago.

Eddie Howe refused to give away any information when asked about Gordon’s future at the club last week.

He has been an unused substitute in Newcastle’s last two games, raising worries that it could be due to the Bayern links.

Gordon to Bayern Munich has taken a massive step closer to happening this summer

But the Magpies boss has said he believes that his star remains 100 per cent committed despite the persistent rumours.

Howe said: “He wouldn’t be in the squad if that wasn’t the case. I judge that, as I said many times, not on communications elsewhere, I do that with my relationship with the player and how I see them train.”

Gordon on the move?

Interest from Bayern comes following Gordon’s standout campaign for Newcastle, particularly in Europe.

He scored 10 goals in 12 Champions League games this term, breaking icon Alan Shearer’s record in the process.

In total, the England international has netted 39 times and provided 28 assists in his 152 appearances in all competitions.

Gordon has spent the last three years as a Newcastle player, picking up 17 caps for his nation over that time – and now he could end up joining his Three Lions captain Harry Kane in Germany.

‘He’s absolutely gone’

A move away for Gordon now seems more likely than ever, but it won’t be coming as a surprise to fans of the club this summer.

“He’s gone, he’s absolutely gone,” Newcastle fan and journalist Jack Cunningham said on the latest episode of Inside The Toon.

Fellow guest and journalist Adam Clery added: “If you think back to the Alexander Isak stuff last summer, things being reported, there was a constant news cycle and you tell which party has put the information out to strengthen their side of it.

“The way this Bayern thing is so out there, there’s no pushback, no comment from the club or Gordon, I think you can tell that they just want that sorted as soon as possible.”

“I think it will happen before the World Cup,” Cunningham then predicted. “That’s a thing for Newcastle as he could go there and increase his fee.

“But I just feel they want to avoid an Isak situation. It doesn’t have to be a bad exit for Gordon…but this season it doesn’t seem like he’s fully committed and that he turns up for games he wants to turn up for.”
