The Arizona Cardinals opened the third phase of their offseason program with the beginning of OTAs (organized team activities). However, they still did not have the guy in the building they expect to be their starting quarterback.
Jacoby Brissett, who has not shown up for any of the voluntary offseason workouts, continues to be away from the team during OTAs, which, it is important to note, is still voluntary.
Brissett, set to make $4.9 million in salary in 2026, seeks a pay raise, as he is expected to be their starting quarterback, and starting quarterbacks, even low-end starters, make three times that amount.
There has been nothing new in terms of movement with the contract talks, or if they are even happening, but Brissett remains away from the team.
Head coach Mike LaFleur didn’t have anything new to add.

Regarding the Brissett situation, LaFleur said things are the “same as where we were a few weeks ago.” LaFleur, refusing to elaborate as to how much contact he has had with Brissett and what they have discussed, simply said “we’ve had contact,” when asked if Brissett was up to date on the offensive install.
LaFleur downplayed Brissett’s absence, again noting this part of the offseason is voluntary, because of Brissett’s experience in the league. The veteran quarterback has “done probably everything that we’ve ever done schematically. It’s just a little bit different verbiage.”
But with a new offense, Brissett is missing out on reps that free agent addition Gardner Minshew and rookie Carson Beck are getting.
Mandatory minicamp begins June 8, so that is really when Brissett must be in the building. We will see what happens over the next three weeks.
