As Anthony Volpe is promoted, is he in Yankees lineup today vs Orioles?

BALTIMORE – Jose Caballero’s right middle finger injury has necessitated Anthony Volpe’s recall to the Yankees, per an executive source.

On Tuesday, Caballero was sent to New York for an MRI to his right middle finger, and to be examined by a hand specialist.

Caballero was still declared available off the bench on Monday night, and he was caught stealing as a pinch-runner to end the game at Camden Yards, a 3-2 Orioles victory – the Yanks’ fourth straight defeat.

Volpe has been at Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since his minor league rehab stint ended (labrum surgery). At Triple-A, Volpe is batting .167 (4-for-24) with two doubles, five RBI, four walks and eight strikeouts.

Max Schuemann subbed at shortstop for Caballero on Monday, going 1-for-3 with a double – a play in which Baltimore left fielder Taylor Ward made a questionable route on a catchable fly that hit the wall.
