Auburn Tigers land surprise commitment from elite OT Layton von Brandt

The recruiting world moves fast in college football, and just because something is true one night doesn’t mean it can’t change by morning.

That’s a realization that many Auburn Tigers fans woke up to on Monday, with the surprise announcement that 4-star offensive tackle Layton von Brandt was committing to them over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. As recently as Sunday night, it was assumed that von Brandt was a lock to end up in South Bend with Marcus Freeman, but Alex Golesh was able to pull off a stunner and add one of the best OTs in the 2027 class to his squad.

The 4-star OT stands at 6-foot-6, 280 pounds, and is rated by the 247Sports Composite as the No. 64 overall player in the 2027 class, and No. 5 OT. He is also the No. 1-ranked player from the state of Delaware.

With the commitment, Auburn is starting to creep up the national recruiting rankings in the 2027 cycle. They now have eight commits, headlined by 4-star RB Myson Johnson-Cook, and have a class that ranks No. 26 in the nation.

As Golesh continues to settle in after taking over this offseason, fans hope this type of recruiting success becomes more prevalent as the Tigers look to regain national relevance in college football.
