Barcelona are prioritising reinforcing their attack over their defence ahead of the summer transfer window amid continued links with Julian Alvarez and Alessandro Bastoni.
According to La Vanguardia, the club’s management believes that “reinforcing the defense is less urgent than bolstering the attack.”
Barca’s backline has come in for plenty of criticism under Hansi Flick, but the stats show that the Catalans have conceded the fewest goals in La Liga so far this season.
Pau Cubarsí and Gerard Martín are now established as the preferred center-back partnership, while Flick also has Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen to call upon if needed.
There’s also a feeling that Flick can tweak his approach, as he did against Getafe. “It’s more a matter of concept, of adapting to what we have, rather than making signings,” is the word from the training ground.
It’s a different story in attack where Robert Lewandowski is still expected to leave at the end of this season. His departure would leave Barca short of strikers, meaning the attack is the priority for now.
