Bayern boss confirms plan to open contract talks with Harry Kane

With just over a year left on Harry Kane’s contract, Bayern Munich are planning to open negotiations with the England captain over a potential extension, supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has told t-online.de.

Kane allowed a release clause in his contract to expire during the winter, which, according to Rummenigge, is a clear indication that the 32-year-old is happy to remain at the Allianz Arena.

“Signing Harry Kane for Bayern Munich was an important coup in the club’s history. It is well known that he had a release clause. He did not activate it, which signals that he intends to stay in Munich for sure,” Rummenigge said.

“Now, the responsible decision-makers in the sporting department – as agreed – will hold talks with him at some point after the season, with the clear aim of extending his contract.”

Rummenigge added that he believes Kane has “undergone another transformation” since Vincent Kompany took over as coach.

“He has always been a great striker who scores a lot of goals. But now he is also a playmaking striker who drops deeper into midfield and, from there, brings Michael Olise and Luis Díaz into the game with his excellent long passes. That is very important for our style of play.”

Kane has scored 138 goals in 141 matches for Bayern since his move from Tottenham in 2023.
