With all of the recent news that Bayern Munich and Konrad Laimer were miles apart on a new deal, it comes as no shock that the club might be preparing for a future without the Austrian dynamo.
Laimer’s desired salary and what Bayern Munich is willing to pay seem to be in a place where a compromise might not happen. According to Kicker journalist Frank Linkesch (as captured by (@iMiaSanMia), the Bavarians are content to let Laimer walk away for free after next season:
Konrad Laimer is highly appreciated at FC Bayern, but the club would only extend his contract without a significant pay rise. Bayern would have no problem seeing him run down his contract and leave on a free if necessary. The prevailing opinion at the club is that Laimer would first have to find a club of equal sporting stature and that would agree to meet his financial demands.
This news seems to coincide with a time where Laimer, who is a very good player, could start to see a lesser role at the club anyway. Bayern Munich seems to be poised to look for players in the central midfield and at right-back during the summer transfer window.
Laimer could giver Bayern Munich another good season as a jack-of-all-trades type player before riding off into the sunset and locking up a new deal elsewhere.
