Hiroki Itō suffered multiple injury set backs throughout the 2025/26 season. A recurring metatarsal fracture, muscle, and fitness issues, ruled the Japanese international out for a total of 159 days, missing a sum total of 30 games.

The Japanese international’s latest injury set of injuries may prove to be the straw that broke the camel’s back as Bayern look to strengthen their defense ahead of the 2026/27 season.

According to Christian Falk and Heiko Niedderer (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich are reportedly willing to listen to offers for Itō after his lackluster season.

Itō has no reported suitors as of yet, but that could change very quickly after his 2026 World Cup campaign with dark horses, Japan. However, it’s not so much a case of proving quality for the former VfB Stuttgart man, but rather proving he can remain fit and healthy.

A similar challenge awaits Itō at club level next season — should no suitable offers come in for the Bayern defender.

Therefore, it seems Die Rekordmeister’s willingness to let the Japanese international leave is more an issue of health than a desire to upgrade.
