Bayern Munich midfielder Tom Bischof has spent a fair amount of the season playing out of position just to get on the field. But rather than hindering him, his cameos at full-back have only served to increase his comfort on the pitch — and he is thankful to head coach Vincent Kompany for the experience.

“I’ve learned a lot from him giving me the confidence to play left-back and right-back. He simply makes me feel like he trusts me,” Bischof said in comments captured by Sky Germany, via @iMiaSanMia. “I think that gives a player, and me in particular, a tremendous amount.

“In the beginning, he helped me immensely, coaching me a lot with every single move, and now I’m realizing just how much that’s brought me. I’ve never had a season where I’ve learned as much as I have under him.”

The 20-year-old has seen a significant drop in playing time since moving to Munich from TSG Hoffenheim, something that has not helped him to earn a spot on the German men’s national team for this summer’s World Cup. However, that is just one step on the road in his development. Bischof’s time taking charge of the Bayern midfield could come all the sooner for it.
